Playoffs Scenarios: Advantage Sunrisers Hyderabad in four-way race for Qualification spot

So far in the tournament only one team (Mumbai Indians) has ensured a spot in the Play-Offs and four teams are still vying for the three remaining spots. Kings XI, Super Kings and Royals have finished their league games and have been eliminated.

DC (Delhi Capitals)

Three big defeats in their last three matches have put Capitals' chance of qualification in jeopardy ahead of their last game and have severely dented their NRR. Having said that, all they need to do is to beat Bangalore on Monday and book a spot in the first qualifier against Mumbai. If they lose their final league game, they will need at least one of the two scenarios to happen:

- Sun Risers lose to Mumbai and finish on 12 points

- Need to keep the losing margin against Bangalore within a particular margin so that their NRR stays ahead of Knight Riders, as Sun Risers have a higher NRR of all the teams that can reach 14 points. If Delhi score 160, they need to make sure Bangalore take at least 18 overs to chase it down. In case Delhi is bowling first and concede 160, they should lose by at most 18 runs to keep their NRR ahead of Knight Riders.

RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Like Capitals, Bangalore also have their fate in their own hands. If they beat the Capitals, they qualify for the Play-Offs for the first time in four years and they meet Mumbai in the first qualifier. They can even go through with a defeat. Like Capitals, a large chunk of NRR of Bangalore was shaved off following their heavy defeat on Saturday. If they remain on 14 points, they will need at least one of the two scenarios to happen:

- Sun Risers lose to Mumbai and finish on 12 points

- Need to keep the losing margin against Capitals within a particular margin so that their NRR stays ahead of Knight Riders, as Sun Risers have a higher NRR of all the teams that can reach 14 points. If Bangalore score 160, they need to make sure Delhi take at least 17.3 overs to chase it down. In case Bangalore is bowling first and concedes 160, they lose by at most 21 runs to keep their NRR ahead of Knight Riders .

SRH (Sun Risers Hyderabad)

Thumping wins against Capitals and Royal Challengers have put Sun Risers campaign back on track. The equation for them is simple - beat Mumbai in the final league game of the season in Sharjah and qualify, thanks to their superior NRR compared to other teams that finish on 14 points. If they lose that, they stand eliminated.

KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Knight Riders have finished their games and have a strong case for qualification due to the massive 60-run win over Royals in their final league game. They would need at least one of the two scenarios below to happen:

- Sun Risers lose to Mumbai on Tuesday.

Should a tie on NRR happens between Knight Riders and loser of Bangalore-Delhi, the team which has taken most wickets off fair deliveries will go through. In that case, both Bangalore and Delhi have taken more wickets than Knight Riders already with one match to go and will go ahead to qualify at the expense of Knight Riders.

- The winning margin in the Bangalore-Delhi contest dents the NRR of losing side below that of Knight Riders' -0.214 (refer sections for Bangalore and Delhi to know the margins)

In an extreme case of Bangalore-Delhi affair ends in a stalemate, both Bangalore and Delhi go through. The fourth spot will be decided by the result of Sun Risers - Mumbai match. If Sun Risers win they go through and if they lose Knight Riders go through.
